“When new and complex challenges arise, experience is not a guide to successful action. How do we use what we know to accomplish what we want? Complexity science generalizes what we know, and compassion must guide what we want.”

About Yaneer

Yaneer Bar-Yam, physicist, mathematician and humanitarian, is a scientist with a lifelong mission: distilling complex problems down to their bare essence in order to find winning solutions. Whatever the crisis — war, famine, pestilence, hurricanes, or pandemics such as COVID-19 — Yaneer knows that miscalculating the root cause of problems invariably results in flawed, often tragic, outcomes.

As COVID-19 cases explode around the U.S. and the world, with some nations locking down yet again, he warns that lockdowns alone aren’t enough. Communities also need a proven strategy to emerge as Green Zones, or areas without community transmission.
